Understanding God’s Precepts: Record smashing 101

It was a beautiful experience sharing with freshmen of Methodist Campus Fellowship, The Polytechnic Ibadan on how to smash records. It was also my first time in the school. The reception was grand and the thirst for knowledge was visible. Here is a synopsis of what went DOWN earlier today:

Ps 119:100 (Msg)
I have become wiser than the wise old sages simply by doing what you tell me

Old age is no proof of wisdom: Methuselah lived 969 years and the only thing recorded about him was how he begot this or begot that. Solomon died around 80 years of age and He remains the wisest and perhaps richest earthly king to this day.

Obedience to principles, not advancing age, is the key to wisdom

Here are 5 principles that will position you as a record smasher
Read smart, not hard
Set smart goals instead of no goals
Associate with the best, ignore the rest
Invest your time, don’t spend it
Don’t listen to cynics, smash records

Read smart, not hard
My GCE story: 1 year, a turn around: I shared how I had 1 distinction and 7 credits in my GCE, and less than 1 year later, I had 7 distinctions and 1 credit in my WAEC. Simply by reading smart.
Know what, how, when, where, why and with whom to read.

Set smart goals instead of no goals
What is a goal? A goal is a documented plan towards achieving an aspiration.
Types of goals: Pysical, mental, financial, Spiritual/Altruistic.
Your goals will push you to succeed.
Your lack of goals will push you to fail.
Place reminders where you can see them daily.
Law of the picture: people do what people see (John C. Maxwell)
As NCCF zonal cord, I had the vision for NCCF pasted in strategic places around my room, it was distributed to every exco. As at the time I handed over, we had achieved 99% of our goals.

Associate with the best, ignore the rest
In my Secondary school, I was a dedicated member of JETS club. We like to take pride in reading, solving scientific problems and competing with other schools. So, JETS kept me on my toes academically.

In the University too, I was friends with super smart folks.

Lesson: When you spend time with winners, you learn to win and you become a winner. The reverse happens When you spend time with losers.
Fela Durotoye said it best ‘Show me your friend and I will tell you where you are going’

Invest your time, don’t spend it
Everyone has the same 24hrs
There will be lectures, tutorials and tests, there will be parties and gists and social outings. The choice is yours.
What happens to the best Jamb students in their first year? Most fade out because they believe they know it all. Never rest on your oars. Use your time wisely.
As a corps member, I was very busy, yet I was very productive.

Don’t listen to cynics, smash records
Records are meant to be broken but if you listen to those who say it can’t be done, you’ll end up being broken.
You are too spectacular to be a spectator.
Smash records everywhere, every time.
I started debating in my Primary school, was on State TV in primary 2.
In my Secondary school, I represented Wesley College of Science in many competitions and went on to represent Oyo state in a national competition. I was on national TV too.
While a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, I founded my company, Epower. I organized my first seminar in part 1 and majority of my attendees were final year students. I won a faculty speaking contest among other things.

During my Service year in Kogi state, I carried out numerous projects and won a merit award. It was fun hanging out with the Governor.

I rounded up by reminding each person:
You are fearfully, wonderfully and spectacularly MADE.
Excellence is in your DNA, You can’t help it.

I am a star
Infact I am a super star
I read, I lead, I succeed
And I help others succeed

I follow God’s precepts
I’m smart and diligent
Watch out for me
Because I am a record smasher!
