How to go from where you are to where you want to be (10 tips)

The inward desire of every man on earth is to be the best in his field. Every man wants to be seen as efficient, resourceful, capable and valuable but knowing what to do and actually doing it is what separates champions from clowns.

The race to achieve trailblazing results and be at the top of your game is not a sprint: it’s a marathon. It starts with doing a SWOT analysis of yourself (SWOT implies Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and threat). Identify the areas of your life and business where you could improve and get better, make the necessary adjustments in your area of weaknesses, replace those habits (procrastination, poor planning etc.) that makes you inefficient as quickly as possible to ensure better results. Eliminate or reduce what is not working and embrace or enhance what works. Today, we bring you 11 tips to get you from where you are to where you want to be.

Personality traits are the basic dispositions we have; they affect our life, our decisions and behaviours. When we reach for a new goal, our personality re-shapes the attempt. So it’s always good to know yourself and make your personality work in your favour. Understanding your personality and how your unique traits affects your ability to achieve objectives can help set you up for success and get you past barriers you’re ready to leave behind. To attain your personal best, you need to discover how to overcome your limitations, fears, and self-doubt.

While growing up, a few parents encouraged their children to find the one thing they did better than others and continually channel their energy towards it. This was incredibly liberating. You didn’t have to worry about being all things to all people. You could simply grow your God given talents while pushing yourself to be better. But most people grew up with parents who just did their best at ensuring they graduated with good grades.

Countless athletes played multiple sports as kids. But the ones who eventually played in college or at the professional level always had to give up other sport they played well so as to focus on the one which they were better at and which could potentially make them great. The same applies to you. Identify your natural strengths and pursue them with passion. There is intense power in focus.

Learning to push yourself to your limit is critical. But it’s easy to lose sight of how well you’re doing or pinpoint your weaknesses if you depend only on your own perspective. The solution is getting a mentor. It is a privilege to be coached by some of the brightest people in various fields. You will be amazed by how much difference their insight and advice will make. Once you’re worried about the quality of your work, just seek for their opinion and value their encouragement. Mentors teach, inspire, encourage, buoy up your spirit, motivate and ultimately reassure you of success. Soliciting advice and criticism from a mentor creates accountability. Mentors have been through exactly what you are passing through, so they are in the best position to walk you through your present predicament. Feedback is key to overcoming blind spots and achieving better results. Feedback is the food of champions.

A positive mental attitude is simply not enough to effect changes. Positive action, sustained over time, is what will produce the results you are seeking. The world is filled with positive thinking and positive talking underachievers. The common denominator of all greatness is finding purposeful meaning in your career and life, and having the energy required for keeping you in action long enough to get to the finish line.

In fact, mediocre people, who apply themselves with a white hot burning desire, go further than people with superior talent and have refused to apply them. It takes no talent or extra ability to hustle. Act now!

What you focus on, you bring on. People find it very easy to get distracted from their goal. To achieve what you say you want, you must stay focused on the goal and the work at hand. Look at your business and your life and get rid of all your current distractions as soon as you can.

They may be in the form of people, unfinished projects, a messy desk, or even the latest technology. Keep your eye on the ball.

Truly loving what you do can attract more friends and more customers to you than anything else. Most people want to be around positive, powerful, high energy individuals. You become a magnet for people of those traits when you live your life passionately and enjoy what you do. If you are not passionate about your business, you may be in the wrong business. You can do, be, or achieve anything you want with enough enthusiasm, fortitude and passion.

Finding solutions is just like digging for gold. Have you watched closely the lives of modern-day miners? They compete against time and nature. They compete against one another, all in the hope of striking it rich. First the miners must remove a top layer of 6 to 12 feet of dirt and rocks before the real mining even starts. This seems worthless and painful. In 6 to 12 feet, they hit pay dirt. The more the dirt the miners encounter in the process, the more gold they potentially find. In the end, they must move several tons of dirt to find just 1 ounce of gold. It’s hard work, but it yields rich rewards. The bottom-line is “You have to keep digging”.

When you set big goals you will face big challenges along the way. How you respond to those challenges will ultimately determine the level of your success. Two of the challenges you will face on a daily basis are fear and confidence. Your business will be faced with various challenges and fears; but it is how you confidently face this fear that determines the result you will obtain. Confidence moves you forward while fear keeps you stuck.

Confidence comes from the greatest gift you can give yourself, the gift of believing in yourself. Self confidence is a required step in all great undertakings and achievement. Vince Lombardi said: “Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man, but sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.”

Confidence is truly a choice. Go for it; take the plunge into the pool of self confidence. You can’t get wet by standing on the edge. Strike out with confidence today.

All significant achievements in life come from sustained commitment. Being committed once in a while, or selective commitment isn’t sufficient to maintain career-best performances or results. Most people give up on their dream too soon because success is often inconvenient. Winners have the ability to tolerate the obstacles. It is their stubborn persistence that separates them from the pack. Absolute Success in life is a product of total commitment. Never give up on your dream.

Don’t become so attached to obtaining your goal that you miss out on living life along the way. Stress, burnout, and anxiety stem from “not creating balance in your business and your life”. To excel in business and life, you must be in great shape mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Hit the gym, hang out with friends, go see a movie, say hello to your loved ones! Celebrate life daily!

Finally, if you want to be a success you need to turn your goal or resolution into a habit first. People aren’t born with willpower, they develop it over time and then achieve the impossible. Believe in yourself, try, fine tune and go again. Learn by doing. Remember a resolution isn’t just for Christmas, It’s for life. Having a terrific year starts with having a terrific day. A terrific life comes from giving your very best every single second of every single day.
